Itchy eyes, runny noses, feeling like you are drained from a permanent cold... seasonal allergies can make you feel miserable.
In order to treat allergic rhinitis I take a twofold approach. The first is symptomatic relief - stuff that makes you feel better because you no longer want to scratch your face off ;) The second, is deeper treatment of the underlying imbalances in the immune system. This means supporting the microbiome, addressing food sensitivities, and modulating immune reactions.
To feel better: neti pots rinse away pollen, vitamin C and herbs can stabilize the mast cells (to reduce histamine release), acupuncture can clear up congestion and headaches, and homeopathic remedies can alleviate symptoms.
For deeper healing: probiotics, food sensitivity tests, vitamin D (if you are deficient), liver support, stress management and other personalized strategies are helpful.
It's best to start treatment before the symptoms get too intense, but any time is better than never.
